February Wrap Up!

Happy Friday bookish people! I hope you’re all having a good day today.

Today I am bringing you the wrap up for my February reading, which, spoiler alert, did not go well.

I did a lot in February. I went to a Nightcourt Ball! based on the ACOTAR books and it was a very cool experience, I got to dress up like a fantasy princess and dance for a night and they had people dressed up as the characters from the books and even a live singer, who was excellent. It was tiring but fun.
Then next up in February, I went to Disneyland Paris with my Mum and my sister and my Sister’s family. This was also great but it didn’t give me much time for reading unfortunately.

So, onto what I read this month. I’ll save the list this month I had five books on my February TBR and I only read one (which I literally finished this morning.)

So, in February I read The Queen of Poisons by Robert Thorogood, the third book in the Marlow Murder Club series. I have loved the previous two books in the series but for me this third one fell a bit flat and well, it took me a month to finish it. I’ll give my thoughts in a review later this month but for now that’s it for this post, I didn’t manage to read anything else in February. All I hope is that I get some good books read in March.

How was your reading in February? What was your favourite book that you have read recently?

January 2024 Wrap Up

Happy Friday bookish people! I hope you’re all having a good day today.

Today I am bringing you my January Wrap Up, as I am writing this it is the 28th January 2024 so there are a few days left in January but I don’t think I’ll have time to start any of the other books from my January TBR, but I should be able to finish the one I am currently reading.

  • Manslaughter Park by Tirzah Price – I did not get around to reading this book
  • What would Jane Austen Do by Linda Corbett – I wasn’t feeling any romance books this month, I am devoting a lot of my time to reading mysteries that I can reference in my PhD thesis so unfortunately other books have to be pushed to the side for the minute.
  • The Housekeepers by Alex Hay – I did read this book this month, my review is coming on the 9th February.
  • The Book of Cold Cases by Simone St James – I did not read this book.
  • The Serpent and the Wings of Night by Carissa Broadbent – I did not read this book
  • Grave Expectations by Alice Bell – I am currently reading this book, I am about halfway through and I hope to have finished it by the end of January. Review coming on 19th February.

That was all the books on my January TBR but I actually read two books from outside of my TBR which were: The Magic Faraway Tree by Jacqueline Wilson and The Cat Who Solved Three Murders by L T Shearer, a review coming on the 12th February.

What books did you read in January? Which was your favourite read of the month? My favourite was probably Grave Expectations but for me it was a bit of a meh month, the books were okay but nothing spectacular.

December Wrap Up!

Happy Monday bookish people and Happy New Year! Can you believe it is 2024 already? Time is going so fast and so much happened in 2023, bad things and good things. I won’t get into the bad things, who needs negativity on the first day of the New Year, but some of the good things were having my first stall at Comic Con for my business (The Blind Scribe), and I had a play performed in the Theatre, such a strange but incredible experience, plus I met my boyfriend through the process, he was one of the actors. So, 2023 was overall a pretty good year and to top it all off, I completed my December TBR which I think is the first time I have done that since I started making them. A good end to the year.

so, the books I read in December were:

  • Murder in Midwinter a short story collection (3 stars)
  • Murder on Christmas Eve a short story collection (3 stars)
  • The Mistletoe Motive by Chloe Liese (4 stars) review coming on the 22nd January
  • Murder on the Christmas Express by Alexandra Benedict (3 stars)
  • The Hogfather by Terry Pratchett (4 stars)
  • The Anne Boleyn Bible by Mickey Mayhew (4 stars) review coming on the 15th January
  • The Vanished Bride by Bella Ellis (5 stars) review coming on the 8th January

as you can see my favourite read of the month was The Vanished Bride by Bella Ellis, a gothic murder mystery novel I thought it was excellent.
what was your favourite read in December?

November Wrap Up!

Happy Friday bookish people! I hope you are all having a wonderful day today.
it has reached the end of November and so it is time again to do my monthly wrap up.
November was a pretty good reading month for me, I technically read four books this month which I was pleased with considering I have so much else going on.

In my November TBR I was meant to read:

The Box In The Woods by Maureen Johnson – I did not read. I was trying to prioritise books this month that I could reference within my PhD work which unfortunately was not this one.

Finlay Donovan Jumps the Gun by Elle Cosimano- I did not read this one either, same as the box in the woods, there wasn’t anything in this book blurb I could see that would work for my thesis so I had to prioritise other books but I am very excited to get to this one still, hopefully before the next book in the series comes out.

Nothing More To Tell by Karen M McManus – I did not read this book. Honestly, when I was choosing what to read next I spooked myself reading the blurb of this book. Don’t ask me why, my mind is a strange place.

Marlow Murder Club by Robert Thorogood – I did read this one, it was a reread for me, I knew it was one I planned on discussing in my thesis so I went through my second read, which I loved just as much as the first time I read it, and marked all the points I could use.

The Thursday Murder Club by Richard Osman – same as the marlow murder club, I also read this one and it was a reread. For exactly the same reason as above.

Gideon Green in Black and White by Katie Henry – the third book I read this month. I enjoyed this book a lot more than I expected to and I will be putting up my review of it this month so check back soon for that.

on top of my TBR books I also read the Mistletoe Motive by Chloe Liese, which is actually on my December TBR but I felt in a romance mood which is not like me at all. It was a good book, the romance was pretty swoon worthy and it was set in a bookshop, enemies to lovers. I enjoyed the ride and the change of reading such a short book.

have you read any of these books? What did you think of them?

October Wrap Up!

Happy Friday bookish people! I hope you’re all having a wonderful day today.

October was quite the month for me, I had a stall at Cardiff Comic Con and I got some really good progress done on my PhD, I am exhausted but it is going to be worth it – I think!

Anyway, so my reading went down this month because all my free time is taken up with work but I still enjoyed a couple of books this month.

  • Once Upon A Broken Heart by Stephanie Garber – starting off good, I managed to read this one and I enjoyed it, if there isn’t a book review up by now there will be one soon.
  • Kingdom of the Feared by Kerri Maniscalco – I did not manage to read this one.
  • From Blood and Ash by Jennifer L Armentrout – I didn’t manage to read this one either.
  • Assistant to the Villain – I am currently reading this one so I have started it in October and I should, should, be able to finish it before the end of the month.
  • A Study in Drowning by Ava Reid – I didn’t own this one at the time and so I couldn’t read it because I didn’t get it and I can’t get it on my library app at the moment.
  • Ninth House by Leigh Bardugo – I did not read
  • Mrs Death Misses Death – I did read this one!
  • The Gilded Wolves by Roshani Chokshi – I did not read
  • Devil Makes Three by Tori Bovilano – I did not read this
  • Shadows Between Us by Tricia Levenseller – I did not read this

So, off my TBR I managed to read three books: Once Upon A Broken Heart, Mrs Death Misses Death and Assistant to the Villain. Outside of my TBR I have also read an ARC this month – Last Girl Breathing by Court Stevens which I will be posting a review for on the 6th November.

What did you guys read in October? And what did you think of them?

September Wrap Up!

Happy Monday bookish people! I hope you’re all doing well. Today I am bringing you my wrap up for September. I will tell you all now, my reading has taken a backseat because I have now started my final year of my PhD and that is what is taking precedence over everything else at the moment. I was still happy with everything that I got read this month, it wasn’t much but the books I did read I enjoyed more than I have been recently.

Wrap up!

  • Love On The Brain by Ali Hazelwood – I did not read, I have to say I was really feeling big fantasy reads this month and as this book is definitely not one of those I wasn’t at all interested in reading it right now.
  • As Good As Dead by Holly Jackson – I did not read – I really want to finish this series but I didn’t get enough time this month!
  • Belladonna by Adalyn Grace – I did not read, I have seen mixed reviews for this book. I am still very interested in reading it thought.
  • From Blood and Ash by Jennifer L Armentrout – I did not read this. I hoped I would get to this one, I am drawn to it at the moment (spoiler for my October TBR) hence why I am keeping it on my TBR and I will hopefully read it next month instead
  • Well Met by Jen De Luca – I did not read, another romance and I was not feeling this genre this month
  • Finale by Stephanie Garber – I did read this! I have finally finished this series and I LOVED it. My review of this book is coming in October so look out for that.
  • Thunderhead by Neal Shusterman – I did not read
  • The Luminaries by Susan Dennard – I did not read this either
  • The It Girl by Ruth Ware – I did not read this, actually I did a huge unhaul where I got rid of 107 books and this was one of them.
  • A Far Wilder Magic by Allison Saft – I did not read
  • Book Lovers by Emily Henry – I did not read
  • Murder Most Royal by S J Bennett – I did read this book, another series I am now up to date with

I hope you enjoyed my wrap up, what was your favourite read in September?

Monthly Wrap Ups

May Wrap Up!

Happy Friday bookish people! I hope you’re all doing good today. I am actually writing this post a lot earlier than usual, it’s actually the 21st May as I’m writing this, so I’ve still got time to read more books – two in particular that I am taking on holiday with me.

But for now, here are the books I have read so far in May!

First I read Northranger, a graphic novel that I am grateful to have been sent by publishers, and I thought it was okay, considering I don’t love graphic novels.

Next, I started Murder Before Evensong by Richard Coles- I won’t be writing a review for this book because I DNFd it after 100 pages, I got the feeling that the book was trying to sound too clever and the murder took way too long to happen, I found it boring.

Then I read A pen Dipped In Poison which I will be reviewing here this month so make sure to come back and see what I thought of this book.

Finally, I read Vera Wang’s unsolicited advice for Murderers which has been my favourite read for the month of May so far.

So, I have read four books this month definitely which is not bad at all and I still plan on reading the london seance society and I hope you’re listening this month.

what have you been reading in May?
