Count to 10 with me Book Tag

Happy Friday bookish people! I hope you are all having a good day today. I am bringing you the Count to 10 with me book tag!

First Book in a series – Shadowscent The Darkest Bloom

I don’t really know why I chose this one it was just the first book that jumped into my head for this question, I believe this is the first book in a duology.

Two or more copies of the same book – Finale by Stephanie Garber

I have two copies of this book, I bought the hardback edition as soon as it came out because I couldn’t wait and then I had to get the paperback edition to match my copies of the first two books in the series so I ended up with two copies but I do love them both.

Three colours on the cover – The Wisteria Society of Lady Scoundrels

This cover has all sorts of pastel colours on it so I thought it would be a nice choice for the three colours on the cover.

Four or more perspectives – The Gilded Wolves

I had a really difficult time with this one I ended up having to choose a book I thought had four or more perspective but I couldn’t actually check so I think The Gilded Wolves does.

Five Star Read – Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell

I had to choose this book, it was my biggest surprise five star read so it sticks in my head often.

Six or more short stories – How the King of Elfhame Learned to hate stories

I love this collection of short stories, it really adds to the Cruel Prince series for me, it gives a lot of extra context to the characters in the series.

Seven on the cover of the spine – the 7 1/2 Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle

I loved this book and I can’t believe I had a book to answer this question, I thought I would have an awful time looking for one but I found it on my shelves really easily.

Eight letters in the title – Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte

My favourite classic is the perfect book for this question.

Ends on a page ending with a 9 – Spirit Bound

This book ends on page 489 in my edition so I was happy I found this one. This is the fourth (or maybe fifth?) book in the Vampire Academy series by Richelle Mead.

Ten books in a series – Rivers of London

I have to admit, again I am not 100% sure on my answer to this question. My copies of these books are on my top shelf and from there they all blend into one but there are a lot of books in this series, so it has to be somewhere in the region of ten.

That’s it for this book tag, I hope you all enjoyed it.

The Book Title Tag

Happy Friday bookish people! I hope you are all having a good day today. Today I am bringing you my answers to the Book Title Book Tag. I found this tag (and I believe all three of the tags I am doing this month) on alittlebutalot.com

Title that is the story of your life – The Sanatorium

I had to laugh when I saw this as the first question because this book popped into my head instantly, with all the different medical conditions and disabilities I have my life pretty much revolves around the hospital so the title of this book is very fitting.

Title that describes your perfect weekend – By the Book

I don’t care where I am or what I am doing, if there are books with me or by me then it’s going to be a pretty good weekend.

Title of an adventure you’d like to go on – Scavenge the Stars

How amazing would it be to go on an adventure which takes you to see stars up close and you could collect them or something like that.

Title you want to name your child – Eve Green

I didn’t have much choice for this one. Most of the books I own are fantasy and you wouldn’t really want to call your child something like Gallant, or maybe you would I am not judging if other people would call their child that. So Eve Green was a book I read as part of my University course.

Title of your ideal job – Angel Mage

Angel powers and mage powers mixed together into one would be an incredible job, of course I’m going for a fantasy job here not a reality one because I don’t know any books that have one of those in their title, plus fantasy jobs are so much better.

Title of a place you’d like to visit – The Court of Miracles

France, and miracles. I don’t need to say anymore.

Title of your love life – Master of One

There is just me, my love life is nonexistant.

Questions you ask yourself – How to be human

I think we all ask ourselves this at least once a week, maybe more.

Title of a kingdom you’d want to rule – Kingdom of Ash

As long as it wasn’t completely burnt down or something I think this would be a cool kingdom.

Title you’d name your band – Optimists Die First

This could be a good rock/punk band I think.

That’s it for this book tag! I hope you all enjoyed it. What would you answer these with?

Would You Rather Book Tag!

Happy Friday bookish people! I really love doing book tags, I think they are really fun and they remind me sometimes why I liked, and why I hold onto certain books. So, this month I thought I would bring you a few more starting with this one, the Would You Rather Book Tag! I found this tag on zeezeewithbooks.wordpress.com

Would you rather only read trilogies or only read standalones?

This is a difficult question because I love both. I think I have to pick trilogies because I love getting involved with a familiar character and their next adventure in sequels.

Would you rather only read male or female authors?

This isn’t a question I can really answer because I read both and I think I always will.

Would you rather shop at Barnes and Noble or Amazon?

I live in the UK and we don’t have Barnes and Noble but I would try and buy books from an actual bookshop rather than Amazon most of the time.

Would you rather books were turned into TV shows or movies?

I would choose tv shows because if I am watching an adaptation of a book then it’s a book I really love and if it is a tv show I can have hours of it to watch and really get involved with the world and the characters.

Would you rather read only 5 pages a day or 5 books per week?

There’s no way I could read 5 books a week so I have to choose 5 pages a day.

Would you rather be a professional author or reviewer?

I’d really like to be both but if I could only choose one I’d pick author, that’s what all my studies have been for.

Would you rather be a librarian or bookseller?

librarian definitely.

Would you rather read only your favourite genre or every genre but your favourite?

So difficult because I like so many genres but I think I’d have to choose reading only my favourite genre, I don’t think I could give up fantasy.

Would you rather only read physical books or ebooks?

For me it is always physical books.

That’s it for this book tag, I hope you all enjoyed it! How would you answer these questions?

Easter Time Book Tag!

Happy Friday bookish people! Today I am bringing you an Easter themed book tag that I found on My Reading Escape.wordpress.com

I hope you will all have a wonderful Easter weekend with however you will be spending it, I will probably be spending mine eating a lot of chocolate and using my new coffee maker.

1. Easter Egg: Book that feels like a hidden gem

I have to choose The Lady in the Tower by Marie Louise Jenson for this one because it is a wonderful book that I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone else talk about

2. Bloom: Debut Novel You Loved:

I chose The Court of Miracles by Kester Grant for this book because I received it in an Illumicrate box and I read it in one sitting. It is a retelling of Les Miserables set in a beautifully described France.

3. Chocolate Bunny: Book so good you didn’t want it to end

I chose Caraval because it is one of my favourite books and as the prompt says, I didn’t want it put it down! This series is so magical I wanted to keep reading it for as long as I could.

4. Cheap, Cheap, Cheap: Book you bought for super cheap:

I actually was given this book for free by a really lovely bookseller, I was given a few of the little world book day books and this was one of them, I have already read it.

5. Jelly bean: Book you thought was sweet:

This book has a lot of lovely, sweet themes so Rooftoppers by Katherine Rundell was the first book I thought of for this prompt.

6. Easter Basket: Filled with many surprises:

For this one I am choosing the entire A Court of Thorns and Roses series by Sarah J Maas because although I have only read the first book, I have heard that there are many surprises throughout this series and I am excited to read them.

7. Rabbits: Books you wish would multiply (have a sequel):

I chose House of Salt and Sorrows by Erin A Craig because ever since finishing it I really wished there had been a sequel, I just felt there were questions left unanswered.

8. Hunt: Book that was hard to get hold of:

I had to look everywhere for this book, there was only one bookshop that had it and the drive was over an hour, then when we got there I forgot to look for this book (I know, I couldn’t believe I did this either) and so I had to order it.

So that’s the end of this Easter book tag! I hope you all enjoyed it!

Birthday Book Tag!

Happy Friday bookish people! It is my birthday! I am 23, which feels very strange – sometimes I still feel like I’m 20 but I think that may just be because of the Pandemic. So, I thought it would be a good idea today to do a fun bookish tag so I found the Birthday book tag. I found it on pagesplots.com but on their tag it says they found it on Always Books.

Let’s get to the tag!

Birthday Cake – A Book With a plot that seems cliché but you adore it anyway

For this I went with Get A Life Chloe Brown by Talia Hibbert

I felt like I had read this plot a few different times but there were some new aspects to it in this book and I still really enjoyed this book.

Party Guests – Your most anticipated book release for this year

I think there are two for me, which are Only A Monster by Vanessa Len and Crescent City House of Sky and Breath by Sarah J Maas and I now already own both! I have read neither but I am very excited to.

Birthday Presents – A book that surprised you with how much you loved it

For this one I am choosing Moonflower Murders by Anthony Horowitz

I knew I would like this book because it has an intriguing mystery but I ended up surprising myself with how much I loved it.

Happy Birthday Song – A book that certainly deserves all the hype it got

The Caraval series by Stephanie Garber, definitely!

Happy Music – A book with some very beautiful and truly memorable quotes

I have to choose the Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern, it’s just so magical and fantastical. The quotes are beautiful.

Getting Older – A book that you read a long time ago but you think you would appreciate more if you read it as a more mature reader

This is a really tough one, I am not sure what I can answer this with. I am thinking probably any book by Philippa Gregory because I read them all a few years ago but I think they would mean more to me if I read them now.

Sweet Birthday Memories – A book that kept you incredibly happy during a sad or demanding period of your life

I have to choose the lady in the Tower by Marie Louise Jenson, all her books kept me going throughout my high school period, there was a lot of things going on that I was struggling with and reading was the only thing that made me feel better.

That’s it for this book tag, I hope you all enjoyed it!

Three Bookish Things Book Tag

Happy Wednesday bookish people! I am very excited to be doing this tag today, I was tagged by JenJenReviews and it really made me think, I thought it was going to be easy but I needed to have a long look at my books to answer some of them (not that I mind staring at my beautiful books).

Let’s get to the questions!

Three read once and loved authors

  • Kester Grant – I read her novel Court of Miracles and absolutely loved it, I can’t wait for the next book to be released.
  • Elly Griffiths – I picked up The Postscript Murders on a whim because it sounded interesting and I ended up reading it in one evening so I’m definitely looking to get the rest of her books at some point soon.
  • Deanna Raybourn – I read A Curious Beginning last week and now I need to know what happens in the rest of the series.

Three titles I’ve watched but haven’t read

  • The Vampire Diaries – I didn’t technically watch this one… my sister loved it and would always have it on the TV so I pretty much watched it all without intending to.
  • Shadowhunters – I have seen and loved the TV series on Netflix but I haven’t finished the book series, I did read the first one and I own them all but I haven’t continued them yet.
  • Game of Thrones – again I have watched all the seasons but I haven’t picked up the book series yet.

Three Characters you love

  • Audrey Rose Wadsworth from the Stalking Jack the Ripper series by Kerri Maniscalco – she’s a very strong female lead and I just absolutely love her (and Thomas Cresswell, in my mind they come as a pair so they only count as one here)
  • Scarlet Dragna from Caraval by Stephanie Garber – one of my favourite books ever I had to pick the main protagonist from this series.
  • Wrath from Kingdom of the Wicked by Kerri Maniscalco – can you tell I love this author? She writes amazing books, and well her fictional men are pretty great too. I am excited to see wrath again in Kingdom of the Cursed which comes out in October.

Three series binged

  • The Cruel Prince series by Holly Black – what can I say, the second one ended on a cliffhanger so I had to pick up the third book straightaway.
  • Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo
  • Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead – I read these while in secondary school and loved them and the spin off series.

Three favourite book covers

  • Where Dreams Descend by Janella Angelles
  • The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern
  • The Betrayals by Bridget Collins

Three Goals for this year

  • To get more followers and friends – I only started a few months ago and the bookish community is so welcoming and friendly, I’d love to get more bookish friends in the next year.
  • Hopefully start a PhD – I’ve sent in my applications it’s just the waiting
  • To be less stressed – this is the most unlikely one, I’m always busy and I’m always stressed. I’d love to learn to relax a bit more.

Thank you for reading that’s the end of this tag!

The 50 Bookish Questions Tag

Happy Friday bookish people! Today I’m posting a book tag that I saw on Adventures of a Bookish Girl’s blog – the 50 bookish questions tag! If you want to do this tag yourself, then consider yourself tagged.

  1. What was the last book you read? This might be cheating a little but I’m about 100 pages away from finishing The Strange Case of the Alchemist’s Daughter by Theodora Goss.
  2. Was it a good one? Yes! The first 100 pages were a bit slow but since the action picked up I’m loving it.
  3. What made it good? Hmm.. a lot of things are good about it but I think I’ll go with the mix of characters in the story.
  4. Would you recommend it to other people? Yes, definitely!
  5. How often do you read? I try to read every day but with my job and University work at the moment It’s been more like three or four times a week.
  6. Do you like to read? Um…yes.
  7. What was the last bad book you read? What A Way To Go by Julia Forster. It isn’t a bad book and other people might love it, that’s the great thing about books, I just got no enjoyment from reading it at all.
  8. What made you dislike it? I didn’t understand the setting or what was happening in the plot and I didn’t feel anything for the characters.
  9. Do you wish to be a writer? Yes, hopefully…I’m just finishing up my Creative Writing Master’s degree right now.
  10. Has any book ever influenced you greatly? Yes, although right now I’m blanking on the names of all of them.. of course.
  11. Do you read fan fiction? Nope.
  12. Do you write fan fiction? That’s also a no.
  13. What’s your favourite book? Right now my favourite book is, and it has been for a while, The Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern.
  14. What’s your least favourite book? I can think of a lot of these, most of them are books I’ve had to read for my classes like the Odyssey by Homer, Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte, and Ulysses by James Joyce.
  15. Do you prefer physical books or read on a device? Physical books definitely, I don’t quite get into them as much if I read them on a device – plus glare from the screen.
  16. When did you learn to read? According to my mum I learnt to read before I went to nursery, which is age 4 in the UK, so I was quite young.
  17. What is your favourite book you had to read in school? Ooh that would either be Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck or Lady Audley’s Secret by Mary Elizabeth Braddon.
  18. What is your favourite book series? At the moment it is Stalking Jack the Ripper by Kerri Maniscalco.
  19. Who is your favourite author? I can’t pick one for this, I have too many!
  20. What is your favourite genre? YA, Fantasy, Historical Ficiton, Crime/Thriller – oh wait that’s most of them…
  21. Who is your favourite character in a book series? …I can’t choose.
  22. Has a book ever transported you somewhere else? All the time! Every book really.
  23. Which book do you wish had a sequel? Hm..for this I’m going to say The Left Handed Booksellers of London by Garth Nix, I have to know what happened to the characters after the end of that book!
  24. Which book do you wish didn’t have a sequel? Ah, I don’t know an answer for this one – so far I don’t remember reading any sequels and thinking they would have been better leaving it at the first book.
  25. How long does it take you to read a book? That depends on how long it is. I usually read 100 pages an hour on average so a 400 page book I will read in about four hours.
  26. Do you like when books become movies? That’s a tough one because sometimes I like them and other times I don’t.
  27. Which book was ruined by it’s movie adaptation? The first one that comes to mind for me is Allegiant, the last book in the Divergent series.
  28. Which movie has done a book justice? Well, I think The Hunger Games was quite good, but the books are still better.
  29. Do you read newspapers? Not usually, sometimes I read the local one that comes through the letterbox.
  30. Do you read magazines? Only my monthly writing magazine and sometimes the odd history magazine if it is something I’m interested in.
  31. Do you prefer newspapers or magazines? Magazines.
  32. Do you read while in bed? Only if I can’t sleep and I decide to read to pass the time.
  33. Do you read while on the toilet? Um.. no.
  34. Do you read while in the car? Yes, especially on a long journey it makes the time fly by.
  35. Do you read while in the bath? After an unfortunate incident definitely not.
  36. Are you a fast reader? I’m told that I am so I guess so.
  37. Are you a slow reader? No.
  38. Where is your favourite place to read? It will sound strange but there’s this spot at the top of the stairs right outside the bathroom where the light is just perfect.
  39. Is it hard for you to concentrate when you read? No, it’s very easy for me.
  40. Do you need a room to be silent when you read? No, actually I like to have a show that I’ve seen a lot of times on in the background – but I do need people to not interrupt and try to talk to me a lot because that’s just annoying.
  41. Who gave you your love for reading? Nobody that I know, my family don’t read that much, other than me.
  42. What book is next on your list to read? Either Lore by Alexandra Bracken or Wolf Hall by Hilary Mantel.
  43. When did you start to read chapter books? I don’t know exactly but it was early apparently.
  44. Who is your favourite children’s book author? Tanya Landman probably, I loved her books.
  45. What author would you most want to interview? Stephanie Garber, the author of Caraval, I love her books and from her instagram she looks so lovely!
  46. Which author do you think you’d be friends with? All of them, I think I’m quite friendly so I’d just want to be friends with everyone.
  47. What book have you reread the most? The lady in the Tower by Marie Louise Jenson, historical fiction. The book is in quite the state.
  48. Which books do you consider classics? um.. classical books like pre-1800s maybe.
  49. Which books do you think should be taught in every school? Too many to even begin mentioning them here.
  50. Which books should be banned in all schools? I don’t really agree with banning books so I’m not going to answer this question.

That’s it for this book tag, I hope everyone enjoyed it!
