January TBR!

Happy Tuesday bookish people! It’s the first month of the new year and it is time to share what I hope to be reading this month. I feel like I want to read a lot this month so far, I am hoping this will continue throughout the month and I’ll have a great month to start the year.

My January TBR:

  • The Gilded Wolves by Roshani Chokshi – I am really excited to read this book, I bought it with some vouchers I got for Christmas and it should be arriving today.
  • Furyborn by Claire Legrand – I’m not sure what I will think of this book but I want to read more outside of my comfort zone this year
  • Queenslayer by Sebastien de Castell – I am so close to finishing this series and I think this book will be another great one just like the rest of the series.
  • Act Your Age Eve Brown by Talia Hibbert – I will say at the time of writing this that I have actually finished reading this book and completed the Brown Sisters trilogy!
  • Daughters of Night by Laura Shepard-Robinson – A good Victorian mystery, that’s just what I want to read right now.
  • Shadowscent by P M Freestone – this is another book that I am not sure what to make of it yet but I hope I will enjoy it.
  • The Plague Letters by V L Valentine – a historical murder mystery, it sounds so different and intriguing and I am excited to get into it.
  • Nevernight by Jay Kristoff – I am hoping that I will be able to get into this book easily.
  • Killings at Kingfisher Hill by Sophie Hannah – I read one of the books in her Poirot series and enjoyed it so hopefully the rest of the series will be the same.
  • The Devil and the Dark Water by Stuart Turton – I loved his other book and a murder mystery set on a boat sounds intriguing.
  • Throne of Glass by Sarah J Maas – It is time I got around to reading this book.
  • Daughter of the Burning City by Amanda Foody – I love any book to do with a circus or carnival so I have high hopes.
  • European Travels for the Monstrous Gentlewoman by Theodora Goss – I have already started this one and just like the first book in the series, I am already immersed in the world.
  • Four Dead Queens by Astrid Scholte – I don’t actually know much about this book.
  • Hunting Party by Lucy Foley – I started reading her other book and ended up putting it down so I hope I will have better luck with this book.
  • Pages and Co 2 by Anna James – this is a lovely series of books that I am excited to continue.
  • The Burning Page by Genevieve Cogman – another series that has a brilliant world that I want to get back to.
  • Finale by Stephanie Garber – finally I am hoping to finish up the caraval series!
  • A Deadly Education by Naomi Novik – I’ve heard mixed things about this book but I am still interested in reading it.
  • Clockwork Angel by Cassandra Clare – this is an intimidating book but I am excited to get around to it
  • Empire of the Vampire – another book I’m not sure about but I have heard great things.
  • Nine Perfect Strangers by Liane Moriarty – I am excited to read more mysteries this month.

December Wrap Up!

Happy Saturday bookish people! If I am scheduling this right this should be my first post of 2022 which is crazy because 2021 went by so fast. I hope everyone had a good Christmas and New Year and that you are all excited about what 2022 could bring.

So let’s talk about what I did or didn’t read in December 2021 and what I thought of the books!

  • A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J Maas – none of you will be surprised that again, no I haven’t read this book yet. I will but I didn’t get to it in 2021.
  • All Of Us Villains by Amanda Foody – I was so excited for this one but I wasn’t in the mood to read such a dark fantasy so I am hoping to read it soon.
  • Dance of Thieves by Mary E Pearson – I didn’t get around to this one either.
  • Eliza and her Monsters by Francesca Zappia – I did not read this book.
  • Good Girl Bad Blood by Holly Jackson – I did read this one! I liked it but not quite as much as I enjoyed the first book in the series.
  • In the Crypt with the Candlestick by Daisy Waugh – I did not read this one.
  • It Sounded Better In My Head by Nina Kenwood – I didn’t read this book.
  • Kingdom of the Cursed by Kerri Maniscalco – I really wanted to get around to this one but in the end I didn’t.
  • Mistletoe and Murder by Robin Stevens – I read this one and I really loved it, except for the ending.
  • Murder in Midwinter – I started reading this one but I haven’t quite finished it.
  • Not Here to be Liked by Michelle Quach – I read this book but I didn’t enjoy it as much as I thought I would.
  • Once Upon A Broken Heart by Stephanie Garber – I also was very excited to read this but I didn’t in December.
  • Stay Sweet by Siobhan Vivian – I didn’t read this book.
  • The Christmas Murder Game by Alexandra Benedict – I did read this one and I have posted a book review of it.
  • The Ex Hex by Erin Sterling – I didn’t read this one
  • The Love Hypothesis by Ali Hazelwood – I wanted to read this one but then I heard some reactions to it and it has put me off a little bit.
  • The Man Who Died Twice by Richard Osman – I read this one and I liked it but again it wasn’t as good as the first book in the series.
  • The Marlow Murder Club by Robert Thorogood – I didn’t read this one
  • Traitors Kiss by Erin Beaty – I didn’t read this one either
  • Truthwitch by Susan Dennard – I didn’t read this one
  • Vespertine by Margaret Rogerson – I did not read this
  • Well Met by Jen De Luca – I did not read this one.

So from my TBR i ended up reading five and I started reading one other. On top of my TBR I read Murder on Christmas Eve, Rivers of London, Unsolved Deaths, and six of the books in the Pony Mad Princess series. That brings my total of book read to 14 in December which is a great amount.

Merry Bookmas Day 31 – 31st December – stats for 2021

Happy Friday bookish people! Merry Bookmas day 31! It is the final day of 2021 and so that means it is finally time to share with you all my book stats for 2021.

Amount of books read in 2021: 115

This is 15 over my attempted target so I am very happy with this number.

Total Amount of Pages read: 34, 200

This is an amazing amount of pages to have read this year!

According to Goodreads the average book length I’ve read this year is 306 pages and my average star rating is 3.7 so my reading has been on the better side for this year.

The book I read with the least pages was the Crime Archives with 64 pages and the book I read with the most pages is Moonflower Murders with 608 pages.

Merry Bookmas Day 30 – 30th December – My Book of the Year 2021

Happy Thursday bookish people! Merry Bookmas day 30. We are so close to the end of December and the end of 2021, what a year it has been. I am hopeful that 2022 will be much better.

Today I am revealing which book I have chosen as my book of the year 2021! This was a difficult decision because I read a lot of great books this year. So, without further ado my book of the year 2021 is….

SERPENT AND DOVE by Shelby Mahurin!

It almost wasn’t this book but then I remembered just how much I loved the characters, the story and the whole atmosphere of the world and I had to choose it as my book of the year.

Merry Bookmas Day 25 – 25th December – Book Characters I’d Love To Spend Christmas With

Happy Saturday bookish people! Merry Bookmas day 25, It is Christmas Day! I hope wherever you are and whatever you are doing today that you are having a wonderful time. I thought as something a little short and fun for today’s post I would share some of the book characters I would choose to spend Christmas with. What characters would you choose to spend Christmas with if you could?

Julian and Scarlet

Julian de Santos and Scarlet Dragna from the Caraval series by Stephanie Garber and I absolutely love these characters. Scarlet is probably in my top three of female characters and I think they would bring some fun to Christmas.

Thomas Cresswell and Audrey Rose Wadsworth

From the Stalking Jack the ripper series by Keri Maniscalco. Their relationship with each other is one of the things I love about these characters and to a Christmas celebration I think they would bring some Victorian traditions which would be interesting.

Rhysand and Feyre

From the A Court of Thorns and Roses series by Sarah J Maas. Rhysand would definitely cause some mischief and it would be great fun I think.

Kellen, Nephania, Ferrius and Reichus

From the Spellslinger series by Sebastien de Castell. Reichus would be creating an absolute mess eating all the party food. Nephania would be trying to keep everyone calm. Ferrius would be doing card tricks and maybe some card reading and Kellen would be trying to do a little of everything.

Merry Bookmas Day 24 – 24th December – Family Traditions

Happy Thursday bookish people! Merry Bookmas day 24. Oh my goodness, it’s Christmas eve. I literally feel like a little girl again, all buzzing with excitement. I really love Christmas, it’s such a magical time of year in my opinion. And I have some very specific family traditions. Do you have any family traditions for Christmas? I’d love to read about them in the comments.

First off, my Sister’s birthday is on the 23rd December. She hates it because it’s so close to Christmas and everyone around her is getting excited and prepared for that instead of her birthday. We always have a meal on her birthday with just her, me, our Mum and Dad and Grandma. This year is a little different because her partner and his daughter and his parents will also be there so lots of people.

On Christmas Eve we go to the Pantomime. It started years ago because I could never get to sleep on Christmas eve so we started going to the Pantomime in the evening so that it would tire me out. Which it did. Now we still go because we love it, I do especially and it has become an important family tradition.

Then Christmas Day. Get up in the morning and once everyone is awake we can open the presents. We eat biscuits for breakfast and have a nice time. Then for lunch we usually head to Grandma’s house for a roast dinner and pulling crackers. My Grandad would gather up all the terrible jokes and read them out at random points throughout the day. Then we would start the game.

A few days before Christmas we would use a bingo machine to put all 14 of us into pairs and work out which pair would be playing against which pair for the yearly Uckers tournament. If you don’t know what uckers is, it’s like Ludo but in pairs, It’s quite a complicated game really. We are a very competitive family and this game takes all afternoon and late into the evening. My Grandad even made us a trophy and medal for the finalists. It is always a busy but great day. In 2019 my grandad died and for the past few years we haven’t done the tournament because it’s strange without him but maybe in the next few years we will get back to playing it.
